Our Curriculum
We have carefully curated our targeted plans that utilise the local community and environment to teach concepts of the 7 areas of the EYFS.
The Moat Barn Forest School’s curriculum emphasises hands-on, real-world learning experiences. This approach to education increases academic achievement, helps children develop stronger ties to their community, enhances students’ appreciation for the natural world, and creates a heightened commitment to serving as active and positive role models.
Our Strategies
Children are experts at their own play! Play is far more than meets the eye and has multiple benefits for children of all ages. Enhancing their imaginations, promoting language development and social skills and refining their coordination and physical skills are just a few. We allow our children to take the lead in their play to experience nature how they choose!
We provide children the opportunity to explore the great outdoors while learning! We focus on encouraging children to develop their skills, interests, and understanding of the world around them through practical, hands-on experiences. We give them the freedom to explore their environment and learn at their own pace— exactly the way nature intended.
We view children as unique individuals with their own ideas, thoughts, and needs and we therefore prioritize children’s well-being, both physical and emotionally, along with building their competencies. We foster their participation and autonomy, teach them how to take care of themselves and others, and develop their social-emotional abilities so that they learn the skills for life.
Place-based education is the process of using the local community and environment as a starting point to teach concepts across all subject areas. Emphasizing hands-on, real-world learning experiences, this approach to education increases academic achievement, helps students develop stronger ties to their community, enhances children’s appreciation for the natural world, and creates a heightened commitment to serving as active, contributing citizens.
Children’s learning is not limited to specific activities. Every situation and moment is a chance to learn something new! Our teachers are trained to recognize these moments and increase learning opportunities.
